Lake Bistineau

Just Outside of Shreveport

Lake Bistineau is a 26.9 square mile reservoir just outside of Shreveport, Louisiana. This area is known for its upland mixed hardwood forest, its open waters, and its enchanting swathes of cypress and tupelo trees.

Lake Bistineau dates back to 1800 when several thousand acres of land were flooded due to a massive log jam in the Red River. In 1935, a dam was built after the lake began to drain.

Fun on the Lake

Lake Bistineau is a great place to fish, boat, swim, kayak, or canoe.

On the lake's western shore is Lake Bistineau State Park. The park offers two boat launches, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, two swimming pools, a lakefront beach, camping, cabins, lodges, and excellent fishing. It is a great place to spend your days relaxing and enjoying Louisiana hot summers.

Fishermen can start fishing in January with the "yo-yo" season, which lasts throughout the spring, summer, and early fall. Anglers can expect to snag black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow bass, catfish, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish from the lake's clear waters.

Head to Shreveport

If you want to spend a night in the city, you can drive just a few minutes west to Shreveport.

Visit the R.W. Norton Art Gallery houses over 400 paintings with collections spanning more than four millennia. You can also enjoy the attached botanical gardens, which cover 40 acres of landscaped grounds.

Next, you can tour the Shreveport Aquarium near the Texas Street Bridge. It has 3,000 animals within its beautifully built underwater habitats.

The city also has excellent options for food, drinks, and entertainment.
